The Function of ETP in the textile industry
The name of water is life. This is an Eternal truth in the
world, this is one of them. We know that huge parts of this earth are covered
by water. But out of such a huge amount of water, only 2.5% is drinkable. We know
that every industries needs water and every industry uses a huge amount of
water. But the concern is that, the water that is used in industry is our
potable water. Because if use sea salted water in big equipment in the factory,
the equipment will be damaged in a few days. As a result, industrialists use
drinkable water in their factories.
There are three system of water purification in textile
industries.
The concept is that, in a few days the whole world will be
in crisis of drinking water. We know that a lot of water is used in the textile
industry.
You can easily understand it by looking at the below information.
The information is given that about the amount of water required to make a
cloth. (Kg/ per kg cloth)
- Cotton: 250-350 kg
- Wool: 200-300 kg
- Nylon: 125-150 kg
- Rayon: 125-150 kg
- Polyester: 100-200 kg
- Acrylic: 100-200 kg
Such a huge amount of water will be turned into industrial
waste unless the water can be treated. To purification of water currently being
used in various technology such as ETP.
What is ETP?
ETP is an (Effluent Treatment Plant). Effluent Treatment
Plant is a process for treating the contaminated water, which is called
industrial waste water. Through ETP Process Treating the industrial waste water
for its reuse water or safe disposal of water to the environment. Each Industry
Should Use ETP Plant.
• Influent: Untreated industrial waste water.
• Effluent: Treated
industrial waste water.
• Sludge: This is the process to Solid part separated from
waste water by ETP.
1. Filtration
Using Membrane: There are three system of water purification by using membrane,
(Reverse Osmosis, Nano filtration, Micro filtration.)
2. Chemical
Treatment.
3. Biological
Treatment.
Moreover, ETP has 4 levels of water purification,
The levels are below
1. Pre-Treatment
or preliminary Treatment.
2. Primary
Treatment
3. Secondary
Treatment
4. Tertiary
Treatment.
Water is purified in an ETP in the following ways
- Initially the water is
filtered.
- Cooling and mixing
- Neutralized with acid or
alkali.
- the Chemicals are
concentrated in water
- The oily part is separated
- It is re-filtered and
transported to the drain
Importance of ETP.
- Keeps the balance of the environment just right
- Makes water clean and safe and reusable
- The best way to reduce waste material from an industrial plant
- With proper maintenance it is possible to save money in the long
run
Below are the different properties of contaminated water
after use of water in dyeing industry and quality of pure water after use of
ETP. The importance of ETP can be easily understood from this information. Quality
of water after use in dyeing industry:
pH: 9-11
BOD: 300 milligram / liter
COD: 200 milligram / liter
SS: 200 milligram / liter
Colour : Quality of water after purification by dark brown
ETP.
pH: 7-8
BOD: 30 milligram / liter
COD: 160 milligram / liter
SS: 30 milligram / liter
Colour: After using light brown i.e. ETP, it is possible to
restore the water quality as before. As a result pure water can be reused.
Chemical water which is used in all factories, is freely
discharged in rivers, canals, swamp, and agricultural lands. Which is
completely illegal and a threat to the balance of the environment.
